Sermon recording tips: get a clean recording in Prepser
Put your iPhone or iPad on the pulpit or lectern close to you, turn on Do Not Disturb, pick the language you preach in, and tap Live Audio to Text on Home. Recording works without a connection; the transcript and notes follow once the recording uploads.
Before the service
- Allow microphone access the first time Prepser asks. If you said no, the app shows Enable the microphone in Settings to record.
- Check the language chip next to the record button on Home. It sets the language of the transcript and is locked once recording starts.
- Turn on Do Not Disturb, so a call or an alert doesn't interrupt the recording.
- Charge the phone, or keep it on a charger near the pulpit for a long service.
Where to put the phone
- Close to you and facing you: the pulpit, the lectern or a stand at the front.
- Away from the speakers of the sound system, the band and the front row.
- Flat and still. Holding it or moving it around adds handling noise.
While you preach
Tap Live Audio to Text on Home. The button shows Listening… and a timer while it records, and you can lock the screen. Tap it again when you finish. You don't need a connection to record: the app shows "You're offline. Recording still works — everything else needs a connection."
After the service
- The recording uploads by itself. On a slow connection, keep the app open until it finishes.
- Processing takes a few minutes. If a note stays in Processing, pull to refresh and tap Retry.
- If the app closes or the battery dies mid-sermon, Prepser keeps the recording on the device, so the sermon is not lost.
- Recorded on another device or by the sound desk? Use Upload Audio (MP3, M4A or WAV).
