Prepser vs ChatGPT for sermon prep: drafts, notes and privacy

Prepser is our product. Facts about ChatGPT come from OpenAI's own pricing page and Help Center, linked in the table. Checked November 5, 2026. If something has changed, email support@prepser.com and we'll correct it.

ChatGPT is a general-purpose AI assistant: for a sermon, you write the prompt and add the material yourself. Prepser is an iPhone and iPad app made only for the pastor's work. It records the sermon you preach, turns it into the week's notes with one tap, keeps every sermon and note in one library you can chat with, and drafts the next sermon from your own preaching. Your recordings and notes are never used to train AI models.

A blank chat or a sermon already in the app

With ChatGPT, every sermon task starts with you: paste or upload the sermon, then describe what you want from it: an outline, small group questions, a newsletter, posts. OpenAI's help center describes projects as a place to keep related chats, files and instructions together, within a file limit set by your plan.

With Prepser, the sermon is captured where it happens. Tap record before you step up, put the phone on the pulpit, and the transcript builds while you preach. After the service, Prepser sends a push when the transcript is ready. Link the sermon to a Sunday Message prep, tap Generate Sermon Artifacts, and the week's notes are there: outline, key points, Scripture, prayer points, posts, newsletter, small group questions and the invitation review. Prepser quotes Scripture in your translation in every post and outline; English drafts quote the ESV unless you pick NIV, KJV, NKJV, CSB, NASB or NLT.

Drafting the next sermon

In Prepser, AI Chat has a Draft a sermon button. Give it a passage or topic, pick the audience, length and format, and leave Draw on my notes and preps on. The draft builds on what you have already preached and studied, so it sounds like you, and it lists the notes it used. You study it, cut it and preach your own message. Complete examples are on our sermon pages.

In ChatGPT, a draft works from the prompt and the project's context: its chats, its memory and the files you upload, within your plan's file limit.

Your sermons and AI training

A sermon library holds pastoral material: prayer requests you mention, stories from your congregation, your own study. Prepser never uses your recordings or notes to train AI models and never sells them. OpenAI's help center says that for its services for individuals (Free, Plus and Pro) it may use your content to train its models, and that you can opt out by turning off Improve the model for everyone in Data controls. It adds that if you rate a response with thumbs up or down, the whole conversation may be used for training even after you opt out.

Pricing

ChatGPT's pricing page lists a Free plan, Go at $7 a month, which may include ads, and Plus at $20 a month. Prepser Pro is a personal subscription billed by Apple. Details on our pricing page.

Frequently asked

Does Prepser use ChatGPT?

Prepser doesn't run inside ChatGPT. Its transcription and generation are processed by OpenAI and AssemblyAI on our behalf, through their APIs. OpenAI says it doesn't use inputs or outputs from its API to improve its models by default (help center), and Prepser never uses your recordings or notes to train AI models. The details are in our Privacy Policy.

Can I bring sermons I wrote with ChatGPT into Prepser?

Yes. Paste the text, or upload a PDF or Word (DOCX) file, and it joins your library next to the sermons you record. Audio of sermons you have already preached imports too, and Prepser transcribes it in a few minutes. Everything in the library is then available to AI Chat and Draft a sermon.

Can I delete my sermons from Prepser?

Yes. You can delete any note, or delete your account and everything in it from Settings in the app. Your recordings and notes are never used to train AI models and never sold. The details are in our Privacy Policy.
