Prepser vs Sermonary: sermon drafts, notes and price
Prepser is our product. Facts about Sermonary come from its own public pages, linked in the table. Checked November 5, 2026. If something has changed, email support@prepser.com and we'll correct it.
Sermonary is a tool for planning, writing and presenting a sermon; its own FAQ says it will not write your sermon for you. Prepser is an iPhone and iPad app built as an AI second brain for pastors. It records the sermon you preach, turns it into notes for the week, keeps every sermon and note in one library you can chat with, and drafts the next sermon from your own preaching.
What Prepser does that Sermonary does not
- Drafts your next sermon. Prepser's Draft a sermon turns a passage, topic, audience, length and format into a first draft that can build on your own notes. Asked whether it will write your sermon, Sermonary's FAQ answers no: "You still do the preaching work."
- Answers from your whole library. Prepser's AI Chat works across every sermon, scan, thought and prep you have saved, and shows the notes it used. AI chat over your sermons isn't listed among Sermonary's features; its Vault is described as your sermon history, searchable.
- Builds the week's notes from what you preached. Prepser transcribes live on the device while you preach and builds the notes from the recording. Sermonary's Multiply works from the sermon you wrote, in its own words "from the sermon you already wrote".
- Writes prayer points and reviews your invitation. A Sunday Message prep in Prepser includes prayer points and a review of your call to response. Neither is listed among Multiply's outputs.
- Captures the week on your phone. Speak a thought in the car or scan a page from your study Bible, and it goes into the same Prepser library. Voice notes and page scans aren't listed among Sermonary's features.
- Starts free and costs less to keep. Prepser has a Free plan with a monthly allowance, and Prepser Pro is $8.99 a month. Sermonary is $29 a month for the first 3 months and $49 after, following a 14-day trial that needs a card.

Writing the sermon, or keeping everything around it
Sermonary's own pages describe a sermon workflow: plan in a calendar, study, write in an editor, preach from Present, then get Recap on your delivery and Multiply content from the sermon you wrote. Its FAQ says AI helps "on what you already wrote".
Prepser holds the work around the sermon. During the week it keeps your study: thoughts you speak into the phone, pages you scan, preps for Sunday, Bible study and small group. On Sunday, tap record before you step up, put the phone on the pulpit, and the transcript builds while you preach. After the service, link it to a Sunday Message prep and tap Generate Sermon Artifacts: outline, key points, Scripture, prayer points, posts, newsletter, small group questions and the invitation review, all from what you actually said.
Drafting the next sermon
This is the clearest difference. In Prepser, AI Chat has a Draft a sermon button: give it a passage or topic, pick the audience, length and format, and leave Draw on my notes and preps on. The draft builds on what you have already preached and studied, so it sounds like you, and it lists the notes it used. It is a first draft: you study it, cut it and preach your own message. Complete examples are on our sermon pages.
Sermonary says it will not write your sermon, and describes its AI as helping with what you have already written.
One library you can ask
Every sermon you record or import stays in your Prepser library next to your notes and preps, and AI Chat answers from all of it: what you preached on forgiveness last year, which illustrations you have used for grace, where your series on Romans went. Each answer lists the notes it used, so you can open them and check.
Pricing
Prepser Pro is $8.99 a month or $74.99 a year, about $6.25 a month, with no limit on the number of sermons. The Free plan includes 30 AI chat messages, 3 sermon drafts, 3 prep generations and 3 study notes a month, and capturing sermons and notes is free. Sermonary's pricing page lists Sermonary at $29 a month for the first 3 months and $49 a month after, or $499 a year, and Team at $59 then $79 a month, or $799 a year; monthly plans start with 14 days free and need a card. Prepser Pro is a personal subscription billed by Apple. Details on our pricing page.
Frequently asked
Will Prepser write my sermon for me?
Prepser writes a first draft, not your sermon. Draft a sermon turns a passage, topic, audience, length and format into a draft that builds on your own notes and preps and lists the ones it used. You study it, cut it, add your own illustrations and preach your own message. The sermon stays yours.
Can I bring sermons I have already written into Prepser?
Yes. Paste the text, or upload a PDF or Word (DOCX) file, and it joins your library. Audio of sermons you have already preached imports too: Prepser transcribes it in a few minutes, and a Sunday Message prep built on it gets the full set of notes. Everything in the library is then available to AI Chat and Draft a sermon.
Does Prepser use my sermons to train AI?
No. Your recordings and notes are never used to train AI models and never sold. Transcription and generation are processed by OpenAI and AssemblyAI on our behalf, and you can delete your account and everything in it from Settings in the app. The details are in our Privacy Policy.
